Luxury river cruises to cost from US$500 per night
THE government is planning to introduce high-end cruises along China’s rivers, an official from the city’s water tourism promotion center said yesterday.
The first will be a voyage from Shanghai to the Yangtze River, which is expected to set sail in early 2016, while tours to Nanjing in east China’s Jiangsu Province and Wuhan in central China’s Hubei Province are also planned, he said.
The only luxury cruises that leave from Shanghai now head to Japan and South Korea.
The tours currently available to places such as Putuo Mountain in Zhoushan on the East China Sea and Shengsi County in neighboring Zhejiang Province are far from luxurious, the official said.
The new cruises will cost up to US$500 per night, and two luxury vessels, each with a capacity of about 200 passengers, are already under construction, he said.
Most inland river cruises in China travel along the Yangtze River, where passengers can enjoy the spectacular scenery of the Three Gorges area.
