Shanghai mathematics textbook translated into English
AN English-language version of a Chinese mathematics textbook went on show to the public yesterday at the ongoing Shanghai Book Fair.
The title, which is well known to the people of Shanghai as “Yi Ke Yi Lian,” made its debut in the United Kingdom on August 10 under the new name “One Lesson One Exercise.”
The original is published by East China Normal University Press and the new version by Harper Collins.
The textbook, which was first published in China more than 20 years ago, comprises a series of publications suited to the academic needs and capabilities of schoolchildren from grades 1 through 11.
To date, only the first in the series has been translated into English, but others are planned, its publisher said.
The company said also that negotiations are under way to publish the series in South Korea, Russia and Bulgaria.
