More original, domestic shows to appear on TV next year
MORE original and domestically produced entertainment programs will be launched next year to suit all tastes, as a response to new regulations from the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television.
In October, the administration announced that each satellite TV station is allowed to buy the rights to just one overseas program starting next year.
Television insiders said that more than 30 foreign format-based entertainment programs have been presented on China's satellite TV channels in the past two years. The new regulation calls for originality and diversity in China's TV entertainment.
The new, original entertainment programs include "Sing My Song," China's first homegrown music commentary program; "Amazing Chinese," an inspiring talent show about the Chinese dreams of ordinary people, and hilarious competition series to select the nation's kung fu masters and comedy stars. Most of the shows will be aired early next year.
One of the most eye-catching productions is "Sing My Song," which explores original Chinese pop songs and introduces singers and composers who have strong market potential.
According to Jin Lei, producer of "Sing My Song," from Canxing Productions, the show's format was created by his team to help revive domestic pop music. The format also attracted a lot of attention from overseas buyers when it was presented at the Asia Television Forum.
"The show is tailor-made for Chinese audiences," Jin said. "Distinctive Chinese emotions and melodies will be featured and interpreted."
More than 10,000 original songs have been submitted, 100 of which will be performed on the show for audiences, music critics and veteran producers. The best works will be released as a new album.
Mainland singers Liu Huan and Yang Kun, Taiwan singer Emil Chau and Singaporean singer-songwriter Tanya Chua will comprise the jury panel.
