Seoul-based entertainment and media company CJ E&M yesterday announced the compan’s co-production projects yesterday at the 2016 Shanghai International Film and TV Festival.
In a press conference at China Art Museum, Hu Jinjun, director of the Shanghai Municipal Administration of Culture, Radio, Film and TV, said China now has the second-largest film market in the world and South Korea has the best film production capabilities in Asia.
Hu added that the Sino-Korea co-production projects will bring new energy to the Shanghai film industry and strengthen the ties between the two countries’ film sectors.
The working titles of the films announced at the press conference include “The Kung Fu Robot,” “Salut d’Amour” and “Veteran.”
“The Kung Fu Robot” tells the story of a kung fu-kicking cleaning machine who helps his human friends combat evil.
“This is my first time making a film in China, so ‘The Kung Fu Robot’ is a meaningful project for me,” said director Yoon Je-kyoon.
“Salut d’Amour,” a 2015 South Korean film about elderly people in love, will be adapted for Chinese audiences by Eric Tsang.
The 2015 South Korean crime comedy “Veteran” was the country’s third-biggest box office hit in its cinema history.
A Chinese adaptation will star Sun Honglei.
