New date for annual marathon

THE 2016 Shanghai International Marathon was been moved ahead from November to October 30, organizers said yesterday.

This year’s event was originally scheduled to take place on November 6, the first Sunday of November.

According to Zhou Jin, general manager of Shanghai East Best Lansheng Event Management Company, the decision was jointly made by the city government, as Shanghai will host a few major sports events at the beginning of November, and the new date will prevent clashes between events.

It will be the first time the Shanghai International Marathon is held in October.

The annual event was scheduled in December until 2013, and was moved to the beginning of November in 2014 because the weather and air quality are usually better at that time.
