Nobel Prize winner Naipaul at book fair

NOBEL Prize winning writer Vidiadhar Surajprasad Naipaul will meet Shanghai readers at the city’s annual book fair next month, organizers said yesterday.
The 81-year-old British writer, bringing the latest Chinese editions of his work, will give a speech and attend a reading event during the Shanghai International Literature Week.
The international literature week is one of the highlights of the Shanghai Book Fair.
Naipaul, who was born in Trinidad and is of Indian descent, won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 2001. He is known in China for his trilogy books about three visits to the land of his ancestors and “A House for Mr Biswas,” which is set in his native Trinidad.
Naipaul will give a speech on the theme of “Literature and Translation: in another language” at the Shanghai Science Hall on 57 Nanchang Road at 2pm August 12.
The Shanghai Book Fair runs from August 13 to 19 at the Shanghai Exhibition Center. Opening hours are 9am to 9pm (10pm on Friday and weekends).
