Opera House has new boss

THE well-known Chinese pianist and conductor Xu Zhong was made the new president of Shanghai Opera House yesterday.
The three-year post has been vacant since Chinese tenor Wei Song shifted to the position of artistic director, and has been advertised since last November.
The graduate of Paris’s Conservatoire National Superieur de Musique said he plans to meet the growing domestic demand for opera by popularizing classics, as well as developing original productions.
