'Orphan of Zhao' best TV series
THE Chinese epic drama "The Orphan of Zhao" took the best TV series award last night as the 19th Shanghai TV Festival closed with a star-studded awards ceremony at the Zendai Himalayas Center in the Pudong New Area.
The revenge tragedy, directed by Yan Jiangang, has been likened to a Chinese version of "Hamlet."
A total of 48 entries were vying for Magnolia awards at the festival, which started on Monday.
The best TV film/miniseries award went to German production "Adlon - A Family Saga," a captivating and emotional drama about two families' entwined fates through four generations.
Zhang Jiayi took best actor for his portrayal of a responsible entrepreneur in the drama "Life's Ups and Downs."
Veteran Chinese actress Song Dandan received the best actress award for her depiction of a spicy mother in "We Love You, Jin Liang."
