'Remembering 1942' will hit screens in December

MAINLAND director Feng Xiaogang's highly anticipated disaster film "Remembering 1942" will hit cinema screens across the nation in December, film producers said yesterday at the ongoing 15th Shanghai International Film Festival.

The film, with a budget of 210 million yuan (US$33 million), is about a deathly famine in central China that took 3 million lives in 1942. After five months of shooting, it is now in post-production. Official trailer and movie posters were released yesterday.

Director Feng is considered a sure thing for box office success. Most of his productions have proven to be box office sensations, from his earlier light-hearted fare to blockbuster films such as "Aftershock" and "The Assembly."

"Making this film has been a longtime dream of mine," said Feng. "We're trying to depict the true emotions and attitude of people when they are facing disaster and death. Each of our actors had to put up with hunger, thirst and difficult conditions of shooting in remote villages. It is one of the toughest but most rewarding experiences in my filmmaking career."

The film has a star-studded cast such as Zhang Guoli, Chen Daoming and Xu Fan. It also stars Oscar-winning actors Tim Robbins and Adrien Brody.
