Series of concerts to celebrate world fair
THE Shanghai Oriental Art Center will stage 30 major shows from April 26 to May 16 this year in the countdown to the Shanghai Expo and tickets will be sold for as little as 30 yuan (US$4.39).
There will be concerts, operas, plays, folk music and jazz, involving artists from Germany, France, the United States, Italy, Ireland, Austria, India and Colombia.
Two leading international symphony orchestras - the Saxon State Orchestra from Germany and the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra from the US - will perform in May.
Giacomo Puccini's opera "Le Villi" will make its debut on Chinese mainland. Irish traditional folk dance show "Celtic Legends" will also take the stage and there will be Chinese productions including the traditional play "Shang Yang," music from Inner Mongolia and old Shanghai jazz.
Tickets for students will be as low as 15 yuan.
