Shanghai Opera House strikes 3-year collaboration pact with Britain’s Royal Opera House

THE Shanghai Opera House announced a three-year collaboration with the Royal Opera House on the day it marked its 60th anniversary with a gala evening.

Passages from 17 original Shanghai Opera House productions were staged at the Shanghai Grand Theater on Saturday, including its most well-known work “The White-haired Girl,” “The King of Chu” and “Thunder Storm” which was well-received in London last August.

The Shanghai Opera House and Britain’s Royal Opera House will cooperate on classic programs and cultivate young opera talents. Emerging directors of Royal Opera House will participate in the production of Shanghai Opera House’s classic and original programs. The joint productions will be staged in Shanghai and London.

The agreement was reached following the successful collaboration between the two in 2014 for the joint production of Puccini’s “Manon Lescaut.”

The Shanghai Opera House also launched a website that will carry information about the stage and art-related educational programs. It hopes to be able to provide online ticket sales in the future.
