Shanghai arts festival to unfold on Sunday

The 13th Shanghai International Arts Festival will take place from this Sunday to November 11, featuring about 50 stage performances from home and abroad, various art exhibitions and forums, and the performing arts fair.

Berlin Philharmonic, Bavarian State Ballet and Zurich Tonhalle Orchestra are among the acclaimed foreign artists to perform in Shanghai, according to the festival organizer.

Local theatergoers will be able to see 21 new programs including "Red River Valley" by the China Opera and Dance Drama Theater and "The Tale of the Western Capital" by the Meiwan Troupe of the Shaanxi Drama Research Institute.

To boost public participation, the festival organizer will sell 15,000 to 20,000 tickets at low prices of about 50 yuan on average, more than 15 percent of the total number of tickets. Low-price tickets went on sale last Friday.

This year the organizer set up ticket centers in every district and the second round of ticket sale will last until early November.
