'Skyfall' earns rave reviews from media

SKYFALL, the latest James Bond movie, wowed audience members during an IMAX media screening yesterday at Jingyi Cinema.

The film starring Daniel Craig and Naomie Harris has already earned more than US$1 billion at the box office globally. It is slated for release in China on Monday.

A short video clip celebrating 50 years of 007 was shown ahead of the film.

All the elements of a classic Bond film are included in this 23rd installment of the series, including a car chase, thrilling action, explosions and, of course, some romance.

David Li, who works for a magazine, said "Skyfall" is the best Bond movie as the secret agent is no longer deified for his abilities.

"The film tackles the tender and weak aspects of the hero, exploring his confusion and trauma," he said. "Director Sam Mendes makes the spy thriller more emotional and touching."

Craig, who plays 007, held a video call with media members after the film's showing. He said a similarity he shares with Bond is that they both like fast cars.

Mendes said "Skyfall" is a sad story about M, played by Judi Dench, whose performance triumphs the two Bond girls.

When asked about his impression of Shanghai, he said: "The city looks incredibly beautiful." But due to a tight working schedule he hasn't had time to see many areas of the city.
