Star of 'The Queen' to grace film festival
HELEN Mirren, Oscar-winning star of "The Queen," and her director husband Taylor Hackford will be among the star guests at this year's Shanghai International Film Festival, officials said yesterday.
"Hitchcock," starring Mirren, and "Parker," directed by Hackford, will be screened during the festival to be held from June 15 to 23.
Hackford will attend the opening ceremony in his role as president of the Directors Guild of America.
"Parker" will have its Chinese premiere during the festival on June 18 at the Grand Cinema.
"Hitchcock," which stars Mirren as the director's wife opposite Anthony Hopkins in the title role, will be screened in the high-resolution 4K movie format.
The British actress will be a special guest at the screening at the Shanghai Film Art Center.
The film festival, which runs from Saturday to June 23, will screen more than 300 films at 26 cinemas, including Yonghua Cinema and Stella Cinema City.
Meanwhile, the 19th Shanghai Television Festival starts today. During the five-day event, TV fans will be offered acclaimed dramas, documentaries, animations and TV movies on local channels.
Viewers can vote for their favorite TV series and performers at Sina.com.cn.
The Magnolia Awards will be presented on June 14 and 48 productions are in contention having been selected from more than 1,000 entries.
