Stars expected for film festival
FRENCH actress Isabelle Huppert and British actor Hugh Grant may join celebrities on the red carpet at this year's Shanghai International Film Festival, which kicks off on June 13, festival organizers said.
The jury panel of the 12th SIFF announced last night the entries for this year's "Jin Jue" award.
Two mainland productions are among the 16 entries: "Empire of Silver," which debuted at this year's festivals at Berlin and Cannes, and "Soul Searching," by Tibetan director Wanma Caidan.
The other 14 competitors come from Denmark, Germany, Brazil, South Korea, Poland, Hungary, Italy, the Czech Republic and Norway. Among them is "The Girl on the Train," the latest film from French director Andre Techine.
During this year's film festival, which runs to June 21, 10 classic movies by Alfred Hitchcock will be aired and six features by Isabelle Huppert will be shown.
Oscar-winning director Danny Boyle will be the jury president.
Meanwhile, the 15th Shanghai Television Festival will also take place next month, from June 8 to June 12.
The two festivals offer the chance to see award-winning domestic and foreign documentaries and films at theaters and on television screens.
