Studios ink cooperation deals
THE Shanghai International Film and TV Festival yesterday put the spotlight on new strategic cooperation deals between studios and planned film projects.
Shanghai Film Group signed a cooperation deal with Germany’s prestigious Babelsberg Studio. The two entities will jointly invest 2 billion yuan (US$300 million) to build new studios and movie backdrops at Shanghai Film Park. They will cooperate in both film production and distribution.
Babelsberg Studio officials also said they will also focus on training new film talent in both countries. Jiabo Culture Group yesterday announced that it will cooperate with Hollywood director Renny Harlin, who is best known for “Cliffhanger,” on several new productions.
Ten new movies of various genres are in the pipeline, including youth drama “Sweet Sixteen,” romantic drama “Crimson Romance” and the next installment of “Iron Sky,” — a sci-fi co-production with Hollywood.
Finally, the suspense thriller film “The Whisper,” set in an old building in the Bund, will hit cinemas across China on July 22.
