Survey: Readers still prefer print books
THE city’s readers still prefer print books over digital media, but the gap between the two is narrower than it was last year, according to a report released yesterday.
The latest annual report on Shanghai residents’ reading habits, which was published by Shanghai Press and Publication Bureau, also found that residents read 6.61 books a year on average.
Nearly 60 percent of respondents said printed books provide the best reading experience, while only 16.5 percent preferred digital.
Most respondents said they read selectively when using digital devices, often skipping or scanning the text.
About half of the respondents said they spent between 15 to 60 minutes reading every day.
The survey comes two weeks before the Shanghai Book Fair, which will be held from August 19 to 25 at the Shanghai Exhibition Center.
