The Phantom returns to Shanghai

CLASSIC musical "The Phantom of the Opera" returns to Shanghai in December.

The Really Useful Theater Company production will be staged at Shanghai Culture Square from December 3 to late January 2014 as the final stop on an Asia-Pacific tour.

Tickets go on sale on May 25.

Theatergoers have been calling for the musical to return since its last visit in 2004, but the company had been cautious about launching another tour as it required at least three years of preparation, said Fei Yuanhong, artistic director of Shanghai Culture Square.

After careful study of the markets and theaters in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou, Shanghai was selected as a feasible stop on the Asia-Pacific region tour.

Fei said the audience would notice some improvements in the latest version compared to 10 years ago.
