Visitors love new dance center
RENOWNED international ballet masters and juries of the ongoing 5th Shanghai International Ballet Competition visited the new Shanghai Dance Center yesterday in Changning District.
The center, which will be the new home of the Shanghai Ballet, Shanghai Dance Theatre and Shanghai Dance School, will open this fall.
Jury chair Ivan Liska, artistic director of the Bavarian State Ballet in Munich, and nine ballet masters accompanied Shanghai Ballet director Xin Lili on a tour of the center.
Dirk Badenhorst, CEO of the South African International Ballet Competition, declared: “This is a space where inspiration happens... for the whole of Shanghai, the whole of China and the whole of the world, and I think if you can create amazing things here and inspire the people of Shanghai, the people of China, and the people of the world from here, this is what we need.”
The center, which features a state-of-the-art theatre with 1,008 seats, will serve as a venue for top classical and contemporary dance productions from home and abroad.
After a nine-year break, the Shanghai International Ballet Competition returned this year to the Shanghai Grand Theatre.
