Xintiandi floats some Thai culture
THAILAND will have a version of the Floating Market, the most significant national event for Thai people, in Xintiandi, this week, the General Consulate of Thailand in Shanghai said yesterday.
The event, a warm-up for the opening of the Thailand Pavilion at the 2010 World Expo site, will be held from Friday to Tuesday.
Tai, the mascot of the Thai Pavilion, will meet the public and traditional Thai food and massage will be available at the event, to be held around Taiping Lake.
Visitors will also be able participate in the Songkran Festival, which indicates the Thai new year, on April 13. On the festival, people spray water upon each other to bless them a clean, healthy and prosperous new year.
"People will be able to feel the authentic Thai culture at the event," said Dr Phaichit Viboontanasarn, director of the commercial consul of the consulate general.
