800 trees donated

SHANGHAI Water Resources Foundation yesterday donated 800 Chinese yew trees worth a combined 1.5 million yuan (US$244,000), to the Shanghai Greenery and Public Sanitation Bureau. The variety is known for its ability to absorb large amounts of carbon dioxide, sulfur dioxide, formaldehyde and PM2.5 particles.

A total of 200 trees from Yunnan Province were planted at the Chenshan Botanic Garden yesterday to celebrate Arbor Day, while 600 others will be planted at sites in Pudong New Area, Baoshan, Jiading and Qingpu districts and Qingcaosha Reservoir in Chongming County.
