Air quality set to be polluted

THE Shanghai Environmental Monitoring Center said that the overall air quality in the city yesterday was good - at level 2 on the five-tier scale. The air quality, however, was expected to become slightly polluted from 6pm to 6am this morning, under the impact of a sandstorm from the North, the center said.

The center said the main body of the sandstorm has arrived in northeast China and Yellow Sea region and caused serious pollution in Chifeng in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, Shenyang and Fu-shun in Liaoning Province and Changchun in Jilin Province.

The cold front bringing sandstorm from the north has started to influence Shanghai. According to the data released by the Shanghai Environmental Monitoring Center on its website, the density of inhalable particle matters started to rise since 6pm yesterday.

The air quality between 6pm and 6am this morning is expected to be slightly polluted. It will be close to slightly polluted this morning and good this afternoon. The overall air quality today is set to be slightly polluted.

The center said it will closely follow local air quality changes and publicize information to residents through its website in time.
