City breathes easier over summer
THIS summer's air quality was the best in history, with every day in July and August registering good air quality, Oriental Morning Post reported today.
And residents enjoyed top air quality on 32 days of the 62-day summer period, the most days ever, Shanghai Environmental Monitoring Center said yesterday.
Air quality improved because of reduced sulfur dioxide from coal-fired power plants and tougher rules on car emissions downtown.
Until the end of August, the city saw 229 days so far this year with good air quality, or 94.2 percent, setting another record.
