Heavy smog again! And city to suffer into weekend
Shanghai woke up to choking smog again today with the air quality index reaching 408 by 9am today, or severely polluted, the highest level.
The city’s PM2.5 density soared to 408 micrograms per cubic meter this morning, more than five times the nation’s limit of 75. The highest density of 445 micrograms per cubic meter was recorded in Xuhui District.
The Shanghai Environmental Monitoring Center forecast the smog weather would continue into the weekend.
A weak cold front will arrive today but only bring an increase in clouds and won’t do much for the smog, forecasters said.
Temperatures will reach the mid teens at the weekend and bounce back up to 17 degrees Celsius on Sunday, while lows will range between 8 and 9 degrees.
On Monday, highs will drop to 12 degrees with a low of 6.
