Investigation into fish die-off
ENVIRONMENT watchdogs are investigating a pollution incident on a stretch of river in an industrial park that killed thousands of fish, leaving distinctive spots on the bodies.
The waterway administrator is removing the dead fish to clean the river in Zhangjiang High-Tech Park, officials said yesterday. Residents complained that the river became dark and foul-smelling with thousands of fish and even a dead dog floating on the surface. Some fish had red and black spots on their bodies. The waterway authorities suspect the pollution may have been caused by firms illegally discharging waste.
