It鈥檚 a 鈥榞ood鈥 day to fill your lungs
THE people of Shanghai should be able to breathe a little easier today as the city’s air quality index dips into “good” territory.
After several days of smog, the AQI is expected to fall to between 55 and 75 this afternoon, with PM10 particles set to be the main pollutant, the Shanghai Environmental Monitoring Center said yesterday.
Much of the recent pollution was blown into Shanghai on northerly winds, but this should gradually disperse as easterly winds strengthen, bringing cleaner air into the city from the sea, forecasters said.
The Shanghai Environmental Protection Bureau said the threat of pollution is likely to remain throughout January and that people should keep a close eye on its daily air quality updates.
“We can’t make forecasts more than two days in advance,” an unnamed employee told Shanghai Daily.
Today will be mostly cloudy, with a low of 4 degrees Celsius and a high of 7, while tomorrow’s outlook will be much the same, though slightly warmer with a range of 3 to 11 degrees.
