New faucets to stem the leaks
THE Shanghai government is replacing more than 250,000 old iron faucets with environment-friendly types using ceramic valves to save water in anticipation of heavy demand this summer.
Wu Yaomin, senior engineer with the Shanghai Water Authority, said the new faucets could save about 30 percent of water in comparison with the old ones with rubber valves prone to leaks.
