Rain set to improve city air quality
AIR quality in the city was "slightly polluted" yesterday, due to the influence of a sandstorm from the north.
However, it is expected to improve today, local environment authorities said.
As a cold front brought sand, the density of inhalable particles raised yesterday, with air quality judged at level 3 on a five-tier scale. Today, air quality should be at level 2, said the Shanghai Environmental Monitoring Center.
Rain and thunderstorms are expected on Sunday, which will help clear the city air.
Today will be cloudy with rain from late tomorrow until early Monday, said the Shanghai Meteorological Bureau.
Highs over the next few days will be around 28 degrees Celsius, with lows of around 18 degrees.
