Turn trash into a trip to Montreal

A CONTEST with the theme "Trash into Treasure," which requires participants to make art works from garbage, started to collect works from the public yesterday.

The grand prize is a trip to Montreal, Canada.

The EcoArt campaign, organized by Touchmedia, an in-taxi interactive media company, aims to motivate people to rethink their attitude toward reducing, reusing and recycling waste.

Taxi passengers will vote for the winners. The top works will be exhibited at the Montreal Pavilion at the World Expo, which highlights the city's success in transforming a landfill into a park.

Nancy Pon, general manager of Touchevents, a subsidiary of Touchmedia, said they received more than 45,000 works in a similar contest last year.

About half were handed in by foreigners.

You can e-mail to ecoartchina@touchmedia.cn to submit your work by July 31. Sculpture, fashion, photography, music, video, multi-media and collage are all welcome.
