Water authority's flood-season forecast: 20% less rain

RAINFALL during the flood season from June to September this year will be an estimated 600 millimeters, 20 percent lower than average, Shanghai water authorities said yesterday.

Most of that rain is expected during the plum rain season, which is forecast to start after June 15, and should be 20 percent more than average.

The overall forecast is favorable for flood control this year, officials said.

And while they were on the subject of summer, the authorities also said to expect 15 to 24 extremely hot days with the maximum temperature over 35 degrees Celsius. That's also more than average.
