Looking to attract conventions

Industry experts said yesterday that Shanghai will likely attract more global conventions in the future as the annual conference of the International Congress and Convention Association opened in the city.
Nearly 1,000 industry experts and professionals from more than 60 countries and regions are attending the conference, which concludes on Wednesday.
During the conference, Shanghai, Beijing and Hanghzou will host tourism promotion events.
The Shanghai International Convention Center now hosts about three international-level conventions every month and 700 meetings every year, up significantly after the city joined the ICCA, said Dai Changzheng, the convention center’s vice general manager.
It is the first time the International Congress and Convention Association has held it annual conference on China’s mainland in 50 years.
