More foreign visitors overstay their visa this year
MORE foreign visitors are found overstaying their visa this year as they prolong their Expo trips or tour nearby provinces, local immigration police said.
Border police at the city's Pudong International Airport said 2,159 foreigners had been found overstaying, a 20-percent increase compared with last year, since the Expo started this May.
Among them, 462 received punishment such as fines and short-term detention, police said, adding that many of them were overseas Chinese who spent much time visiting their hometowns and forgetting their duration of stay.
According to China's Entry and Exit Law, those who illegal overstay shall be fined up to 5,000 yuan or face detention of up to 10 days.
