19% Shanghai children are obese or overweight
ABOUT 19.3 percent of local youngsters are overweight, a rise of 14.1 percent from two years ago. Obese children also grew from 6 percent in 2010 to 13.2 percent now, Shanghai medical experts said today.
Dr Liu Shengtang at Shanghai Hongkang Hospital said overweight and obese children should have a diet and exercise more for the sake of their health.
He checked some overweight and obese children in the Gubei Road Primary School and prescribed traditional Chinese medicines for them to control weight.
Liu called on local schools to teach students about the importance of diet and adopt a healthy lifestyle.
