2 Chinese from the US raise local cases to 13

SHANGHAI reported two new cases of swine flu yesterday, bringing the city's total to 13.

Both patients were studying in the United States and arrived on flights from San Francisco that originated in Los Angeles.

The latest victim is a 17-year-old Chinese girl who came in on United Airlines flight UA857 on Tuesday.

She registered a temperature of 37.3 degrees Celsius while passing a scanner at the Pudong International Airport. Her blood sample tested positive for the H1N1 virus, and she was sent to the Shanghai Public Health Clinical Center for quarantine and treatment.

The other case involved a 14-year-old Chinese boy who arrived in Pudong on flight UA857 flight on Sunday. He was running a temperature of 37.5 degrees when his family took him to Shanghai Children's Medical Center.

After testing positive for the swine flu virus yesterday, he was sent to Fudan University's Children's Hospital.
