300m lacking safe drinking water
SOME 298 million of China's rural population and 114,000 rural primary schools do not have enough safe drinking water, according to charity officials.
The impact of unsafe drinking water on the health of children has made this a serious social issue, said officials from the non-governmental organization One Foundation.
The group - also called the Red Cross Society of China Jet Li One Foundation Project - was in Shanghai yesterday to highlight the issue.
The foundation also announced that it is teaming up with Coca-Cola to launch the "A Drop of Pure Water, A Brighter Future" campaign.
From April 10th to 23rd, Coca-Cola will hold fund-raising events in 230 RT-MART stores across China.
During this period, RT-MART will be joining forces with Coca-Cola to donate 1 yuan for every bottle of designated Coca-Cola products purchased to the One Foundation.
This money will be funneled toward buying water purification equipment to enable schools in rural areas to provide drinking water that meets national standards.
