Adverse Reactions
MOST of Shanghai's adverse reaction cases are related to intravenous drips, officials from the Shanghai Clinical Center for Drug Adverse Reaction Monitoring said yesterday.
Shanghai has some 20,000 adverse reaction cases a year, and drips were involved in about 80 percent of them.
"IV abuse is a common issue in local hospitals because of patients' misunderstanding and blind trust on its effects and doctors' improper practice," said Du Wenmin, the center's vice director.
Children and the elderly are the major recipients of drips.
