Bacterial count high at 10 local restaurants
AN outlet of the Italian-style chain Babela's Kitchen was found to have staphylococcus and a high total bacteria count on its salmon vegetable salad, and another nine local restaurants also failed to pass quality tests, said Shanghai Food and Drug Administration yesterday.
The Babela's Kitchen outlet is located at People's Square.
The rest of the nine eateries, all Chinese-style restaurants, were found to have high levels of bacteria - coliform or staphylococcus - on food or dishes.
They included downtown eateries such as Caixiangting Restaurant on Jianhe Road, Shanghai Qifeng Co Sea Food Restaurant on Dongfang Road and Shanghai Baici Restaurant Co on Wanhangdu Road.
All ten of the eateries will undergo punishment, according to officials.
