Bean producers slammed in FDA report
PRODUCERS of beans and bean-related products have been ordered to clean up their acts after a damning report from the Shanghai Food and Drug Administration.
In tests carried between July and October, 21 percent of all such products tested failed to meet the required standards, the food safety watchdog said yesterday.
Most of the failures were due to products containing excessive levels of bacteria, it said.
The bean category was the worst performer of all the food types tested in the period, the administration said.
Companies engaged in the production of bean products and pickles must ensure the highest standards at every stage of the process, the watchdog said.
In tests on 1,026 samples of all types of food products, almost 95 percent met the administration’s standards, up 2.5 points from the same period of last year, it said.
