Channel for eco-district

A CHANNEL linking Suzhou Creek and Yinchu Lake will be built as part of the Changfeng Ecological Business District.

The channel is necessary as the water level in Yinchu Lake is lower than that of Suzhou Creek. It will also be the final step for the park, built in 1957, to become an ecological one surrounded by public green areas without any walls.

The channel is one of many projects in the ecological business district. The 220.9-hectare area, expected to be finished by 2012, will transform the once polluted industrial area into an ecological area with two parks, 10 museums and many eco-friendly companies.

Chen Yufei, spokesperson of the district, said: "Since 2005 we have gone through countless difficulties in relocating the factories, investing money in green spaces along Suzhou Creek, and tried hard to attract ecological companies.
