City says its vaccine procedures are safe

NO one has reported severe adverse reactions from vaccines, according to the Shanghai Health Bureau, which said that the purchase, management and use of vaccines in the city is well supervised.

The explanation came yesterday in response to an ongoing national scandal in which vaccines have allegedly harmed or even killed 15 kids around the country.

Shanghai Food and Drug Administration supervises the shipment of the vaccines from the producers to Shanghai Municipal Center for Disease Control and then to district-based centers and medical facilities that give the shots. Shanghai CDC has eight special vaccine warehouses equipped with temperature warning systems to regulate the quality of jabs.

Between 2007 and 2009, Shanghai gave 24.7 million shots to defend against 19 infectious diseases.
