Deaf kids get special Expo tour
MORE than 40 children born with hearing impairments toured the World Expo site yesterday to celebrate the opening of a rehabilitation club for deaf children.
The Shanghai-based club, established by the Children's Hospital of Fudan University, aims to offer a platform for children across the country to communicate and play with each other, and allow their parents to share in training and get the latest information on rehabilitation methods.
"The priority of the club is to bring the kids with hearing problems to a group where they can speak and hear freely, just like other normal kids," said Xu Hong, chief of the club and vice director of the hospital.
Xu said although hearing aids with advanced technology may help the children get back to school, they still felt out of place among those with normal hearing.
