Deaths from city's heat wave climb to at least 11
A 64-year-old Taiwanese man died of heat stroke in Shanghai early this morning, raising the city's death toll from the heat wave to at least 11, authorities said.
The boatman arrived in Shanghai on July 13 to exammine and repair boats and ships, local border inspection authorities said. He fainted on July 23, showing symptoms of severe heat stroke, and was sent to Shanghai Longhua Hospital for emergency treatment. The situation worsened despite a week's treatments.
The man passed away this morning after his organs failed, the hospital said.
