Dog bites on the rise, expected to peak next week
The three designated hospitals offering dog-bite treatment in Pudong New Area are receiving over 130 patients a day since the start of summer, and the peak is expected to arrive next week along with rising temperatures, doctors said today.
Punan Hospital, the biggest bog-bite clinic in Pudong, has treated 60 to 70 patients every day. The three hospitals received a total of over 48,000 patients from January to June, some 5,000 cases more than the same period last year. The youngest patient was only 2 months old, while the oldest was 78.
"Most patients are bitten or scratched by their own pet, which become irritable on hot days," said Yin Zhifa, an official at Punan Hospital. "Any patients who are bitten or injured by dogs must go to professional medical facilities for treatment."
