Donors set to tap veins if needed
SHANGHAI has established a 10,000-member volunteer team to give blood donations in emergencies during the World Expo, officials from Shanghai Blood Administration Office said yesterday.
The office also organized another 600 people with the rare RH negative blood as volunteers in case of an urgent blood shortage.
Since blood has a shelf life, authorities will organize volunteers to donate blood in emergencies instead of merely storing more blood.
If necessary, another 3,000 university students and teachers will give emergency donation.
Shanghai blood authorities recently increased daily storage to 2,700 liters from 1,200 to 1,800 liters.
