Fengxian District targets more for its 'Oriental Beauty Valley' developments

FENGXIAN District are soliciting opinions from local academicians and experts over the weekend on its "beauty valley" development plan.
Wang Zhan, president of the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences, said the city's south district should integrate the sports, tourism and agricultural sightseeing industries into its "Oriental Beauty Valley" development, which currently mainly focuses on the cosmetics and health industries.
"The district should develop the valley into a place where people can experience the ‘beauty industries,'" Wang told the 2016 industrial summit of the district.
A 20-square-kilometer industrial park — equivalent in size to about 2,000 football fields — has been set aside in the outlying district as the core area of the Beauty Valley. It will serve domestic and international companies producing or researching cosmetics, perfumes and bio-pharmaceutical products, said director Hua Yuan.
More than a quarter of Shanghai's 250 cosmetics companies are now based in Fengxian, including well-known international brands such as Nu Skin from the United States and South Korea's Cosmax, alongside local brands such as Pechoin and Jala.
Ge Wenyao, head of Shanghai International Fashion Federation and Shanghai Jahwa's former Chairman, asked the district government to firstly research on the demands of local consumers on the beauty industries.
The government has been cooperating with the East China University of Technology based in the district to set up a cosmetics test center and a research institute for fragrances and flavors, according to Hua.
The outskirt district has set a new record achieving 30 billion yuan (US$4.3 billion) in fiscal revenue in 2016, Hua announced at the summit.
