A community-based mental health system is key to preventing a repetition of recent tragedies where parents have thrown their children to their deaths, an expert has said.
Zhang Xinkai, secretary general of Shanghai Mental Health Association, said, ideally, every residential complex should have a mental health station with professionals offering help.
However, only 10 percent of local communities have consultation centers offering psychological treatment.
