High-tech approach to care for patients
SHANGHAI’S hospitals have increased investment to upgrade information infrastructures on making appointments online, free Wi-Fi, client databases, mobile payments and the Internet of Things.
The new IT services are aimed at improving work efficiency and easing conflicts between doctors and patients. The reforms would ensure security and stability of the hospital IT system, said Gong Jun, chief information officer of Shanghai Renji Hospital. “A reliable IT environment is a stabilizer for the mood of both doctors and patients. It’s also a catalyst of smart hospital development,” said Gong.
Renji had invested heavily recently to establish an upgraded wireless network with a special security set-up on data protection and patients’ privacy, said the telecommunications device maker H3C.
China’s IT infrastructure market revenue will hit more than 100 billion yuan (US$14.8 billion) until 2020, industry insiders said, bringing huge market opportunities to device makers and system providers.
Up to now, most Shanghai hospitals support online appointment and payment procedures via WeChat and Alipay.
