Hospital network set up for gynecologic patients

A network of hospitals was set up yesterday for quick transfers of obstetric and gynecologic patients.

It will be led by Gynecology and Obstetrics Hospital of Fudan University, one of leading hospitals in the city, and includes 11 other hospitals.

The hospitals will share resources. Serious patients will be moved to bigger hospitals in the network. A unified clinical practice and residence training will also be conducted within the network.

Patients with serious condition will be sent to city-level hospitals, while those with chronic condition and need rehabilitation after surgery will be sent to lower level hospitals.

All the 12 hospitals, which are affiliated to Fudan University, are from 10 districts and have 1,719 beds for obstetrics and gynecology.

“Many patients come to the city and go to the big hospitals, which are burdened, while some district-level hospitals don’t have enough patients,” said Dr Xu Congjian, president of the Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital of Fudan University and director of the network.

“Under this network, patients can be transferred quickly within the system depending on their condition. Our hospital can offer screening for high-risk pregnant women registered in other hospitals in the network and even reserve beds.

“With this new measures, patients can feel comfortable visiting hospitals closer to their home,” Xu said.
