Hospital receives accreditation

SHANGHAI Pudong Hospital received an international accreditation yesterday, a major boost as it is the designated hospital for Shanghai Disneyland.

It is the city’s fourth — and the first district-based hospital — to be accredited by the Joint Commission International, a world leader in health care quality and patient safety. With the endorsement, the hospital can start accepting international insurance cards.

The other three hospitals approved by JCI are Huashan Hospital, Shanghai Children’s Medical Center and Children’s Hospital of Fudan University.

Pudong Hospital, which is close to the Pudong International Airport, said clinics inside Disneyland have been built by the park authority with a deal in place with the hospital to dispatch medical staff for accidents or emergencies.

“Due to the hospital’s location, we are tasked to handle emergencies at the airport. Many of the passengers are foreigners, who expect international standard health service,” said Dr Zhang Peng, director of the hospital’s international medical service department.

“As the designated hospital for Disneyland, we will offer high quality health service.”
