In vitro checks
THE Shanghai Health Supervision Agency announced yesterday the start of a citywide inspection on all six hospitals offering in vitro fertilization and the Shanghai Sperm Center.
The agency detected four cases of IVFs being done without a permit and one case of giving sperm to an unqualified facility. Researchers last year checked about 8,500 women receiving IVF in city hospitals and confirmed IVF technology was safe, but the number of transplanted embryos must be restricted.
